Following up on a study from last year on how young men grieve for a friend who died accidentally, UBC researchers have taken their project to Whistler to examine this issue in the resort community. The statistics of young men who die by engaging in risky activities are all too familiar to Whistler residents. But less is known about the young men left behind to deal with these deaths.
As part of the research, a photo exhibition is being held in Whistler this month. The photos taken by young men in the study offer an emotional statement about the emptiness and shock they feel when they lose a male peer. The images capture a sense of loss that the young men struggled to put into words, but also honour men’s friendships.
