Event: Groundbreaking and funding announcement mark new era for made-in-B.C. medicines
Minister of Jobs and Economic Growth Ravi Kahlon will announce provincial support for B.C.’s life science sector on Monday, as the University of British Columbia breaks ground on The Edge—the future home of its Advanced Therapeutics Manufacturing Facility.
Media are invited to attend the provincial announcement and groundbreaking ceremony. Beforehand, media are welcome to join the minister on an interactive tour of Dr. Sriram Subramaniam’s drug discovery lab, where UBC researchers are using advanced microscopes and AI to engineer better medicines at the molecular level.
The Advanced Therapeutics Manufacturing Facility will be the first of its kind in Western Canada. The facility will provide the infrastructure for UBC researchers and local biotech startups to develop, test and manufacture lifesaving treatments right here in B.C., for people across Canada and the world. It is a flagship project of Canada’s Immuno-Engineering and Biomanufacturing Hub, led by UBC.
Assignment editors: Media are asked to register in advance by emailing erik.rolfsen@ubc.ca and we will provide detailed wayfinding and parking information. Photos from the event and lab tour will be available upon request after the announcement.
