Urban honeybees are precise pollution detectives, study finds

Inverse published an article about research from UBC which found that honey from urban bees can indicate the amount of pollution in the environment.

“Given that more than 70 per cent of cargo ships entering the Port of Vancouver originate from Asian ports, it’s possible they are one source contributing to elevated lead levels in downtown Vancouver,” said Dominique Weis, lead author and a professor at UBC’s Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences.
