Asha Srinivasan, a research associate at UBC’s department of civil engineering spoke to Pacific Standard about the wasteful sanitation habits that are causing fatbergs.
Srinivasan explained that fatbergs are mostly composed of long-chain fatty acids, which are too complex for most microorganisms to decompose.
