Their pain is real – and for patients with mystery illnesses, help is coming from an unexpected source

The Globe and Mail mentioned several UBC experts in an article about unexplained medical symptoms and the use of Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), a psychological approach that deals with unconscious negative emotions.

John Ogrodniczuk, director of UBC’s psychotherapy program, Robert Tarzwell, a clinical assistant professor of psychiatry at UBC, and Michael Negraeff, the head of pain management at UBC’s department of anesthesiology, pharmacology and therapeutics, were quoted in the story.
