The Daily Mail reported on a UBC study that found boys in teenage relationships may experience more physical violence than females.
Researchers Elizabeth Saewyc, a nursing professor at UBC, and Catherine Shaffer, a PhD student at SFU, asked high school-aged adolescents whether they had been victims of violence in dating relationships, over a period of 10 years. They were surprised to find that males in grades seven to 12 reported higher rates of violence than girls.
“A lot of our interventions assume that the girl is always the victim, but these findings tell us that it isn’t always so,” said Saewyc.
