UBC library nabs U.K. first edition of Harry Potter novel

The Vancouver Courier and Daily Hive featured the UBC library’s acquisition of a first edition Harry Potter book for about US$36,000 through a dealer last November.

The book and other material from the library’s Harry Potter collection were on display March 9 to 11.

Another Courier story highlighted UBC’s rare books and special collections section. Chelsea Shriver, the rare books and special collections librarian at UBC, said the purpose of acquiring rare books and archival materials is to ensure they’re accessible to the public, available to support faculty, and available to students.
