SBS Australia reported on researchers at UBC who examined health data from pregnant women to determine if pre-pregnancy body mass index, or BMI, was associated with severe maternal morbidity.
The study found conditions such as sepsis or acute kidney failure were more common for women who had high or low BMI before conception, and the risk increased as BMI increased.
