We need a different approach to treat and prevent diabetes

Treating and preventing diabetes will only work if responsibility shifts to communities and governments and away from its sufferers, according to four UBC academics in an op-ed published today in The Province.

“In our experience, the most powerful first step in helping those with Type 2 diabetes begins with a simple phrase: It’s not your fault and we’re here to help,” said Heather Gainforth, Mary Jung, Jonathan Little and Ali McManus, health promotion and diabetes researchers at UBC’s Okanagan campus.
