Chief Justice McLachlin on sex assault cases

Isabel Grant, a professor at the Peter A. Allard School of Law at UBC, was quoted in a Globe and Mail article after Supreme Court Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin said sexual assault complainants have a right to be treated fairly, but they also need to be realistic in their expectations of a justice system that needs to protect against wrongful convictions.

“Once you set up the framework this way, it is pretty clear what the outcome will be. Rights trump expectations,” Grant said.
