CBC reported on mineralogists in UBC’s department of earth, ocean and atmospheric sciences who studied a gold mine of sapphires in Nunavut.

Philippe Belley, a graduate student who studied the deposits with professor Lee Groat, said “the abundance of sapphire in the Kimmirut area is just off the hook — it doesn’t come close to anything else in Canada.”
