Ottawa should play a role in funding new journalism

The Globe and Mail published an op-ed by two faculty members from the UBC Graduate School of Journalism about the need for federal funding for new journalism.

Alfred Hermida, the school’s director and a professor, and Mary Lynn Young, a professor at the school, wrote about “the need for mechanisms to enable new journalism organizations to get up and running as a means of encouraging transformation and innovation, the sustainability of quality journalism and a plurality of voices.”
