Global Voices: Prison bars shouldn’t be barrier to maternal bond

Ruth Elwood Martin, director of the Collaborating Centre for Prison Health and Education at UBC and a former prison physician, was quoted in a Montreal Gazette story about prison childcare.

She said society judges incarcerated women as “bad” and punishes their children by separating them from each other.
