Not just a boys’ club: Women hooking into fishing industry

VOA featured research by Sarah Harper, a PhD candidate at UBC’s Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries, about women’s contributions to the fishing industry in Mexico, Peru, Senegal, South Africa and Vietnam.

Harper said men make up the majority of those going out on fishing boats, but some small-scale fisheries such as the collection of shellfish and fish from shore, involve more women.
