Terence Corcoran: Foreign-buyer tax is the first in a Trojan House of policies to mess with Toronto’s real estate market

The Financial Post cited policy suggestions from Thomas Davidoff at the UBC Sauder School of Business and UBC geographer David Ley for a story about the Toronto and Vancouver housing markets.

Davidoff has proposed a 1.5-per-cent tax on “owners with limited economic and social ties to Canada.”

Ley has suggested a property-transfer tax that would apply to the entire market, with the tax imposed on an escalating scale.
