Drug addiction ‘could be genetic’, researchers say

A UBC study of genetically engineered mice that were able to resist cocaine addiction due to manipulation of brain proteins, was featured on Yahoo U.K.

Shernaz Bamji, a professor in UBC’s department of cellular and physiological sciences and lead study author, said researchers would need to find a molecule that blocks formation of a memory of a drug-induced high, while also not interfering with the ability to recall important things.
