Influx of asylum seekers cross U.S. border to Quebec, Manitoba

Efrat Arbel, a professor at UBC’s Peter A. Allard School of Law, spoke to the Globe and Mail after an influx of people illegally crossed the U.S. border and claimed refugee status in Quebec and Manitoba.

Arbel said all refugee claimants on Canadian land are at least entitled to an oral hearing and fair procedures, under the Supreme Court’s 1985 Singh decision which established modern refugee rights in Canada.
