Richard Hamelin, a UBC forestry professor, spoke to the Vancouver Sun about handheld genomic tools that will help defend forests across the country from foreign, invasive species.
Hamelin said new devices can take a DNA sample on the spot like an insect egg or larvae and provide results within hours.
