The Conversation published an op-ed by two UBC researchers about the significance of seafood for coastal indigenous peoples around the globe.
Yoshitaka Ota and Andrés Cisneros-Montemayor, researchers with the Nippon Foundation-UBC Nereus Program, developed a global database of more than 1,900 indigenous communities, and found that coastal indigenous peoples consume nearly four times more seafood per capita than the global average.
