The Montreal Gazette quoted Catherine Winstanley, a UBC psychology professor, for a story about the distractions present in casinos and how it compares to how our brains react to smartphone notifications.
Winstanley published a study on the impacts of lights and sounds on risk-taking behaviour among rats.
“I often feel that scientific models are decades behind the casinos,” Winstanley said. “I don’t think it’s an accident that casinos are filled with lights and noise.”
