First Canadian MDMA-assisted trauma therapy trial wraps up

Mark Haden, a professor at UBC’s school of population and public health, spoke to Metro News about Canada’s first-ever trial treating trauma using the drug MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy.

Haden said the Vancouver experiment will formally end up this week and another site in the city is being considered for the next phase of their research. The research was part of an international initiative funded by Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies.

“Most PTSD therapy takes years,” Haden said. “We do it in three months.”
