Vancouver scientist develops new method for detecting food fraud

Yaxi Hu, a PhD candidate in UBCs faculty of land and food systems, was interviewed on CBC’s Early Edition, after she won the Mitacs Award for Outstanding Innovation for her method of testing for food fraud and contamination.

“According to Interpol … they’ve seized more than 10,000 fake food [items] from 57 countries within four months,” she said. “That’s a huge amount.”
