U.S. News and World Report featured work by Alex Bigazzi, a UBC civil engineering professor, who found exerting too much energy while walking or biking on city streets can increase the amount of airborne pollutants you inhale.

“The faster you move, the harder you breathe and the more pollution you could potentially inhale, but you also are exposed to traffic for a shorter period of time. This analysis shows where the sweet spot is,” Bigazzi said.
