Experts call for national opioid strategy as overdose deaths rise

Mark Tyndall, a professor at UBC’s school of population and public health, co-authored a report that urged Ottawa to create a comprehensive national strategy to curb rampant overprescribing of opioids, the Canadian Press reported.

An estimated 2,000 Canadians died from opioid overdoses last year, and many provinces are on track for an even higher number of deaths in 2016.
