UBC’s new sexual assault policy one step closer

UBC is finalizing consultations on its new sexual policy which was drafted after the school was criticized over how it handled several high-profile incidents, CBC reported.

Louise Cowin, UBC’s vice president of students, discussed the challenges with drafting the policy.

“Sexual assault is not a new thing. It’s a pervasive problem and it’s something that universities across this country and North America are struggling to get right [with] policies and processes with respect to survivors,” she said.

Cowin also spoke to CBC Radio’s Early Edition about the same topic.
