Return to the teenage brain

The Straits Times published a New York Times article on brain neuroplasticity and highlighted a UBC study on musically “naïve” men.

The 2013 study examined if it was possible to restore the ability to acquire absolute pitch. The scientists discovered that subjects who received the mood stabilizer valproic acid were significantly better at identifying the correct pitch than participants who received a placebo.

The findings showed it may be possible to re-open a critical learning period that normally closes in childhood.
