How UBC’s Steven Galloway affair has haunted a campus

A new Globe and Mail article on the departure of UBC creative writing head Stephen Galloway focused on two UBC creative writing graduates who volunteered testimony on the case and a letter sent to UBC by Canadian author Madeleine Thien.

Accusations against Galloway included sexual assault, sexual harassment and other inappropriate behaviour.

“There is an inherent power imbalance between faculty and students,” said UBC’s managing director of public affairs Susan Danard. “Faculty members must avoid or declare all conflicts of interest, including those that involve relationships with their students. … If this policy is violated, a faculty member may face disciplinary measures.”
