News 1130 quoted Kurt Hübner, director of the Institute for European Studies at UBC, about the newly signed Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement that will eliminate import tariffs on most goods moving between Canada and the European Union.
He said import savings may not be passed on to consumers.
“In some sectors, companies have higher market powers than in others,” he said. “If (prices) stay put, this indicates not so much a failure of CETA, but maybe a failure of competition policy in this regard in Canada.”
