Does the gig economy mean ‘endless possibilities’?

The Vancouver Sun interviewed Marc-David Seidel, a professor at UBC’s Sauder School of Business, for a story on the impacts of a technology-based job market.

Seidel said tech giants that have disrupted long-established industries could soon be obsolete and decentralization will increase.

“Right now, if you drive for Uber, they take X percentage of your revenue,” he said. “They have to take an operational expense for them and a profit for their shareholders. In the future, you as the driver are going to be transacting directly with the rider.”

The story also appeared in the Ottawa Citizen, The Province, and Regina Leader-Post.
