Teen arrested following assault at UBC dorm

Various media outlets reported yesterday that charges have been laid after a UBC student allegedly attacked another student Tuesday. The suspect has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. The victim is in hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

In a statement, UBC president Santa Ono said UBC is focused on supporting the victim and the victim’s family, and the students who witnessed the assault or who have been affected in any other way.

The RCMP has said there is no continuing risk to students, UBC vice president Philip Steenkamp told CBC. He added that UBC has immediately taken action to ban the student who perpetrated the attack from returning to campus.
