Texting no replacement for real face-time

Researchers at UBC’s Okanagan campus have completed a study of local young adults and the impact their smart phones have had on their relationships, Global BC reported.

“When you communicate with someone over the phone it’s hard to feel what they’re feeling,” said Susan Holtzman, a psychology professor at UBCO. “Young adults are actually more narcissistic … and generally less empathetic than they were 30 years ago.”

Holtzman said connections made in person are much more powerful than texting with emojis.

A presentation on the same topic was featured in the Kelowna Daily Courier.
