Kate and William wow crowds in Kelowna

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took in an exhibition match with the nationally ranked UBC Okanagan Heat women’s volleyball team and unveiled a plaque to mark the university’s 10th anniversary. They were welcomed by UBC chancellor Lindsay Gordon, Deborah Buszard, principal of the Okanagan campus, and UBC president Santa Ono.

In an interview (Ottawa Citizen), Ono commented that the royal visit was “fitting” in view of the recent nomination of former UBC president Stephen Toope to head Cambridge University. Ono added that the UBCO campus, which has about 10,000 students, has a scale “conducive to a high quality and personalized education.”
