Rural mothers more likely to suffer complications

The Globe and Mail featured UBC research that found expectant mothers living in rural areas are more likely than urban women to have serious complications during their pregnancies and deliveries.

“I thought we wouldn’t find big differences but I was surprised, actually, that there were some differences in some conditions that can be potentially life-threatening,” said Sarka Lisonkova, a professor in UBC’s department of obstetrics and gynaecology.
