Discussing youth pregnancy in the transgender community

Roundhouse Radio spoke to Elizabeth Saewyc, a professor at UBC’s School of Nursing, for a segment on pregnancy in the youth transgender community.

UBC’s study found that transgender youth who are sexually active have similar pregnancy rates compared with their non-transgender peers.

Saewyc spoke about the impact the study should have on the health care system.

“This is an important study for health care professionals who are providing care to transgender adolescents because from a health care perspective you absolutely need to make sure that you’re thinking about reproductive health with trans youth,” she said.
