UBC student creates beautiful objects with used chopsticks

Kelowna Now featured work by Felix Böck, a PhD candidate in UBC’s forestry department.

Böck studies bamboo as a building material and started the project ChopValue, which turns recycled chopsticks into home decor products. He estimated that at least 100,000 chopsticks are thrown out every day in Metro Vancouver.

“When I first started collecting chopsticks for research, I didn’t realize how many are thrown out,” Böck said. “It made sense to me to try and do something innovative with them.”
