How Kate and William are reviving our royal fascination

The Vancouver Sun quoted Sarika Bose, a UBC lecturer in Victorian literature, for a story on the public’s fascination with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

“The attempt to humanize the monarchy is a difficult enterprise, because if they are just human beings they aren’t that interesting,” Bose said. “What gives them particular power is their mystique. Royalty has always understood that they have to maintain that mystique.”

The story also appeared in The Province.
