Is Vancouver’s vacant home tax going to rely on snitches?

CBC interviewed Thomas Davidoff, a UBC economist and real estate specialist, for a story on the proposed vacant home tax in Vancouver.

“This is a step in the direction of fixing a very broken tax system which rewards investment and punishes people who live and work here,” he said. “Is it going to be enforced perfectly? No, but we had zero enforcement previously.”

CTV also mentioned work by Davidoff for a story on a rental bidding war in Vancouver.

Davidoff forecast that if current trends continue, rental prices could jump 20 per cent over a single year, from March 2016 to March 2017.
