Panel calls for major overhaul of UBC’s sexual assault policy

A panel appointed by former UBC interim president Martha Piper is calling for a major overhaul of UBC’s sexual assault policy, the Canadian Press reported over the weekend.

UBC will release the panel’s report to the campus community on Monday.

UBC currently deals with sexual assault complaints through a general procedure, and one of the panel recommendations is to create a separate disciplinary process for sexual assaults. Other proposals include standardized timelines for each stage of the process and a central body to link up survivors with support services or formal reporting channels.
