Joined by former residential school students, their families and members of the indigenous community, UBC will formally announce the construction of the Indian Residential School History & Dialogue Centre, a first of its kind in Western Canada.
The $5.5-million building will honour the experiences and history of residential school students, and the thousands of children who died while in attendance.
Once complete, the centre will act as a multi-media repository for residential school records and archival material and a hub for academic and community research, education, public programming and healing.
The Indian Residential School History & Dialogue Centre (IRSC) is an official affiliate site of the National Research Centre for Truth and Reconciliation in Winnipeg.
