New injectable drug fights hard-to-control asthma

United Press International and US News & World Report featured the discovery of a powerful new treatment for asthma.

The drug, benralizumab, kills white blood cells called eosinophils that have been linked to severe asthma.

“We can offer patients who frequently require courses of oral corticosteroids and have a certain level of eosinophils a very effective treatment,” said study author Dr. J. Mark FitzGerald, a respiratory health professor at UBC.
