How to keep plenty of fish in the sea

Closing the ocean to fishing could save fish species, according to new UBC analysis reported by Metro News Halifax (scroll to page 15).

UBC environmental science professor William Cheung examined three ways we could manage the high seas, assuming global temperatures increase by 1.8 degrees Celsius over their 1985-2005 average. A “business as usual” scenario would result in in a 5.5 per cent drop in fish harvest, while closing the high seas to all fishing would increase fish harvest by around 10 per cent.
