The time is right to spark easier electronic-cigarette access

Mark Tyndall, executive medical director of the B.C. Centre for Disease Control and a UBC professor, called for easier access to e-cigarettes to provide chronic smokers with a healthier alternative.

“If all smokers were to switch to e-cigarettes, there would be a dramatic improvement in people’s health and massive cost savings to our health-care system,” wrote Tyndall in a Globe and Mail op-ed.

He said that e-cigarettes are an alternative to smoking cigarettes but they must be regulated to protect quality and ensure safety for users.
