Canadian researcher tackles toughness of flax straw

Agweek Magazine featured research by Michael Deyholos, a biology professor at UBC’s Okanagan campus, who is working to engineer the toughness out of flax stems to make flax crops easier to handle.

His goal is to encourage more farmers to grow flax and to eventually find new uses for flax.

“In survey after survey of Canadian growers, when asked why you don’t grow more flax, (they say) it’s because of the straw management issue,” he said.
