Why Vancouver rents spiked in 2016

Metro News interviewed Tom Davidoff, a UBC economics professor, for a story on the factors contributing to rent growth in Vancouver.

He said rising housing prices mean many renters remain as tenants rather than owning homes.

Davidoff said other factors to rent growth could include Metro Vancouver’s strong job growth, interprovincial migration and demographic factors, including a “bulge” in millennials forming households.
