Robotic boat set out to cross Atlantic

Roundhouse Radio featured engineering students—members of a UBC robotics team–who will send their self-driving boat on a trip from Newfoundland to Ireland.

After winning the International Robotic Sailing Regatta three years in a row, the team decided to compete in The Transatlantic Challenge.

The boat, named Ada, is 5.5 metres long, with a windsurfing sail, a flexible base and a crash bow to absorb the impact of any potential collisions. The hull is composed of cedar strips and carbon fiber.
