Is algae or glacier melt causing green waters?

Dan Moore, a UBC geography professor and glacier expert, spoke to the Vancouver Sun for a story on green waters in southern B.C.

“I’d be surprised it would be algae because there’s so much,” said Moore, adding he has never heard of such a large bloom in Howe Sound. “With this hot weather we’ve been having the glaciers are just pumping out melt water into Howe Sound.”

The green water can been seen from the southern Gulf Islands, up the Strait of Georgia and Howe Sound north to Desolation Sound.

The story also appeared in The Province, Calgary Herald, Edmonton Journal, and Ottawa Citizen.
