Study of monks suggests meditation can improve brain activity

CBC News featured a study from UBC’s Okanagan campus and the University of Victoria on the effects of meditation on monks’ brain activity.

Researchers found monks performed better when challenged with a video game after meditating.

“[The monks] spent their lives dedicated to meditation, which is actually a really interesting way of changing brain function,” said Gordon Binsted, dean of the Faculty of Health and Social Development at UBC’s Okanagan campus. “Meditation changes how the brain works.”
