Explaining how hummingbirds fly

BBC News featured UBC research on how hummingbirds fly efficiently using vision to avoid collisions.

UBC zoologist Douglas Altshuler discussed the practical applications of these findings when it comes to improving drone technology.

“In a similar fashion our aircraft have to solve problems. What happens if there’s a sudden updraft?” he said. “We want to understand what are the different strategies that the animals use to solve those problems, and then potentially leverage that information to help the drones solve them as well.”
