Tom Davidoff, an economist at UBC’s Sauder School of Business, spoke on Roundhouse Radio about Vancouver’s vacancy tax, which recently got the go-ahead from the province.
“We have very low property taxes by North American standards,” he said. “If you don’t pay income taxes, you’re not a landlord and you’ve only recently bought the property, then why not charge a more typical North American property tax?”
