Will China become a partner or pariah after court decision?

Michael Byers, UBC international law professor and research chair in global politics, wrote an op-ed for the Globe and Mail after the ruling that rejected China’s claims in the South China Sea.

“China is at a turning point. Its response to the judgment of the Permanent Court could determine whether it is a partner or pariah state,” Byers wrote. “Should it choose badly, the world will become a less prosperous, more dangerous place.”
